Background:

Raul Perez was born to Puerto Rican descants Ines and Felix Perez in an impoverished neighborhood in Miami in January of 1989. Before he was born, Raul's parents had fled Puerto Rico in hopes of giving their son Tomas and their upcoming child a much better life in America. They had all lived in an apartment complex that often had drug dealers and bums around. Growing up on the bad side of Miami was a tough challenge for not only himself but his family. There was police sirens constantly at night and most days there would be the presence of a local gang in his neighborhood that forced his mother to keep him inside in fear he may end being a victim of gang violence. Thankfully he had his older brother Tomas to occupy him when he went outside with him.

Raul's parents suddenly divorced at the age of 6 for reasons unknown to him. He and Tomas were left with their mother as their father left the family to start over somewhere else. It created a huge shift between the brothers. Tomas began to hang out with the local gangs in the neighborhood but Raul knew better than to start hanging with gang members. Raul saw gang life as throwing away your future for a temporary feeling of power. Tomas saw it as an opportunity to be respected. He would always warn Tomas about the dangers of gang life but he was laughed off by him which sometimes devolved into arguments. Raul would be eventually proven right.

At the age of 16, Raul witnessed Tomas, 20 be sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder.

Realizing his brother would no longer be around for him, Raul took it as a life lesson to stay far away from gangs as possible. In school, Raul was not very popular among his peers as most of them liked drugs and sex but he didn't. Despite it, he still managed
to be a good student until his graduation. Raul didn't go to college immediately after High School due to his economic situation. He mostly worked in factories and supermarkets for a source of income which mostly went towards helping his mother pay the bills to
their apartment. Raul always saw himself as a supporter of the police as he thought of them as the people who protect and serve communities. That mindset would change as one day in August of 2015 where he was falsely arrested for possession of drugs and was thrown in jail for a few days. He was later proven innocent as evidence was shown that his arresting officer planted drugs in his car. The incident would cause Raul to develop resentment towards the police force.

Deciding that he had enough of Miami and wanted to live in another part of the U.S. Raul took whatever belongings and possessions he had and moved all the way to Los Santos in 2019 to start fresh. He settled in Rancho where he currently lives to this day. He dreams of truly getting out of the hood and living a successful life.
